So Long Old Friend

“I’m ready,” I said, a deceptively strong face fighting back tears.

I caressed your soft fur one last time. I gazed into your sapphire eyes; you knew, somehow.

“I’m ready,” I said, but that wasn’t what I meant.

33 words + the phrase “That wasn’t what I meant.” for this week’s Trifecta Challenge.

This past Saturday, I said goodbye to my furry friend of nearly 18 years,  Sugar.  I’m going to miss her sweet disposition and loving nature.  She really was the picture of a perfect cat, so eager to give love and affection.  I don’t think anyone is ever truly ready to say good-bye to family.

Stay positive & love your life!

Listening to: Air – Who Am I Now?

Eating:  Hummus and veggies wrap.

Random fact:  You can add Costco to the list of odd smells I enjoy.  Maybe it’s the cardboard boxes.

  1. I’m so sorry. She’s a beautiful cat.

Your entry is really well done.

  2. Totally understand…their innocence makes them missed all the more. It’s why I believe they greet us again, where they, and our true selves can live free of the world’s entropy, ill effects, and sorrows. A belief.

  3. No, one is never ready for that sort of thing. Sympathy.

  4. Oh I am so sorry. It brought tears to my eyes reading this. No one is ever ready to say goodbye. So sad! HUGS! Great take on the prompt. ♥

  5. my heart just hurt with that goodbye. What a beautiful little animal soul.

  6. That’s so sad….I’m sorry for your loss.

  7. Little Sugar was given to Melissa by one of my coworkers at the time. We talked her dad into a “new” cat by telling him that it had its shots and everything. (ya right!) When we went to pick her up, she had a severe upper respiratory infection. We did not think she would live to get her to the vets. One after hours trip to the vet, we were on our way home with a medication and a very sick kitty. Melissa nursed her back to health and they have been friends all these many years.
Sugar never weighted more than 5-6 lbs and was totally deaf. She had the loudest meow I have ever heard! What a precious animal that became such an important part of my daughter’s life. 4 legged creatures can be your best friends!
